There are several different kinds of informational digital content that you can make use of to make a passive income. These digital content ideas have been used by many and I will provide an example of how these individuals use them to make a passive income.

Digital Content for Passive Income

E-books – An electronic book that is purchased online at a one time charge that is written and delivered typically through a PDF file. It works just like a regular book but you are able to download and read it through your computer or electronic device (such as Ipad, Smartphones etc.). Often times people give free ebooks such as Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveincome.com. Where he gives away the information for free but suggests products as an affiliate. To learn more about it check out my post on Earning an Income as an Affiliate.

Membership Sites – This is a typically monthly charge to your credit card or bank account for premium members only access to information. The site is protected by a user name and password which can expire if the member does not pay the membership dues which can be set to any amount by the business owner. Ramit Sethi  from Iwillteachyoutoberich.com has a membership access only for his Earn1k program that has videos and tutorials on how to start a business.

Templates and Tools – These are pre-made tools and templates for people to use immediately. These can have been designed for a variety of different usages. Templates can be wordpress themes like Elegent themes or they can be sales letters. Tools/applications can be also made for immediate use a great example of a tool I use is Market Samurai for keyword, competition and domain research all very important when starting a online business. You can download it now for free by click here – Market Samurai free trial.

Newsletters – is similar to a newspaper or magazine. It can be about anything and can be charged per issue, monthly or yearly, some may even be free. These newsletters are for highly targeted areas a great example of a paid newsletter service is Ramit Sethi where he has his customers pay him for newsletters on tips on how to save money.

Directories – These are similar to a yellow book or city directory. These list information regarding a particular area of interest by business type or category. Often times this information is highly sought especially for people looking for drop-shippers for ebay or even looking to be listed in a particular directory for their blog, such as DMOZ or Yahoo.

Audio Files/Mp3/Video – Itunes is probably the best example of how audio/video can be purchased and downloaded. However you can also provide the audio/video to itunes or other websites such as Amazon and they will pay you a percentage of the sell.

Online learning – Online learning has really taken off in the past five years. From colleges offering online degrees to Internet entrepreneurs such as Internet Business Mastery who offer a membership website for learning how to start a business.

Software – This type of digital informational product is probably the most difficult to make however can easily be done if you contract with someone. You can use Elance, Odesk or Rent-a-coder to hire someone to make a software program, template, audio, mp3 and anything else you can think of if you need it.
